An artist with incredible versatility, unique groove and pocket, and a compelling performer, Ben Misterka’s story is anything but ordinary. Spending nearly 6 years based in Shanghai, he is well known as a top call session and touring guitarist, regularly performing at arenas, major festivals, and intimate clubs alike, with leading pop artists, internationally renowned touring acts, and his own original projects.
His sound is modern yet vintage, exploratory yet rooted in emotion, diverse yet distinct. Well versed in jazz, fusion, and rock yet always calling upon the blues. Ben Misterka’s playing spans a wide array of genres but always seems to have something that makes it his own.
In 2019 Misterka released an album of original music, “Off the Grid” with his band Collectivity, which had the opportunity to tour in Asia, the US and Europe, including opening for Larry Graham at Shanghai Stadium. In 2020 he collaborated with drummer Tommy Igoe and keybassist Kevin Wong to release “Wim Trio: Volume 1” to great accord.
Relocating to the Bay Area, he is quickly turning heads and making an impact across California and beyond.
Ben Misterka has worked with: Tommy Igoe, Fred Yonnet, Lyrics Born, The Voice of China, Nikki Glaspe, Uriah Duffy, Morris Hayes, Tia Ray, Glen David Andrews, Tan Wei Wei(谭维维), Leah Dou (窦靖童), Yu Quan (羽 泉) and many others.
He studied with Wayne Krantz, Fred Hersch, and Doug Richards.
