NORTHGATE HIGH SCHOOL

Northgate High School’s award-winning Jazz Band 1 and 2 return to the stage at Yoshi’s Oakland, bringing a dynamic and energetic performance that showcases some of the finest young jazz musicians in the Bay Area. These ensembles have earned top honors at some of California’s most prestigious jazz festivals. Most recently during 2025, Jazz Band 1 achieved Finalists at Folsom Jazz Festival, a 3rd place at the Campana Jazz Festival, a “Unanimous Superior” Rating at the CMEA Festival, and a "Command Performance" at the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival.

Jazz Band II enables additional students to perform and develop soloing skills in a rigorous jazz environment. This group has earned many honors and awards at several jazz festivals and competitions including an “Excellent” Rating at 2025 CMEA Jazz Festival, 3rd Place at the 2024 Campana Jazz Festival in their division, and a Command Performance at the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival. Jazz Band II also participates in community events with the Big Band of Rossmoor and at the Mt. Diablo Music Education Foundation's Music Festival.

Accolades for both bands include individual student awards for outstanding soloists/musicianship, scholarships, and placements in district, county, state, and national honor bands. The Northgate HS Jazz Program has performed at Yoshi's for over 15 years  and is so excited to be back once again! Join us on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m for a night of exceptional music as Northgate High School Jazz Bands continue their legacy of excellence on the iconic Yoshi’s stage!
