Born in Richmond, California, drummer Justin Brown is one of the most versatile and sought after drummers of this generation. Justin was introduced to music in the womb by his mother (gospel artist Nona Brown) where she says he would kick to the beat.

He started drumming at two years-old in church and began his formal jazz education at 10 with the Young Musicians Program at the University of California and later Berkeley High School. Encouraged to attend Juilliard after being awarded a full scholarship, he moved to New York in 2004, but withdrew on the first day of classes to pursue a life-changing career experience over education.

Justin is a leading voice in a new era of drummers who honor the tradition of Blues and Jazz and fuse it with a fresh Hip-Hop and Soul vibe. By doing this, Justin somehow manages to sound both historically familiar yet uniquely different at the same time.

Whether it’s with artists Thundercat, Ambrose Akinmusire, Gerald Clayton, and many others, you’ll find Justin blending the past and future in real-time, while adding his signature sound to the mix.
