CONCORD HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ BAND
Doors: 7:30 PM Show: 8:00 PM
Concord High School is taking over Yoshi’s for ONE NIGHT ONLY! Make sure you buy tickets to what is sure to be an incredible evening. Here’s a rundown of what you’ll see…
The Concord High School Jazz Ensemble II will open the night! This is the introductory jazz course at Concord High. In this ensemble, students have the ability to focus on the fundamentals of jazz music. They listen to a wide array of music, learn how to successfully improvise, and ultimately begin the lifelong journey of speaking the jazz language.
A fun surprise of the night is that we will be featuring the Concord High School Alumni Jazz Band! Concord High has yielded some incredible musicians over the years, so this year at Yoshi’s, we thought it would be fun to bring together a big band full of alumni and add them to the bill! Alumni in this band have performed and graduated from music programs at Sac State, Cal State East Bay, UC Berkeley, UCLA, San Francisco Conservatory, California’s Jazz Conservatory, Diablo Valley College, and the US Marines.
The night will close out with the Concord High School Jazz Ensemble I. In the last 3 years, they’ve received multiple 1st place finishes in competitions throughout Northern California. Within the Jazz I performance, we’ll also feature Concord’s Jazz Combo, “Concord’s Funky Four”. These 4 jazz lions are hot off their win from the Campana Jazz Festival, where they received a score of 99/100, earning them 1st place in the High School Combo Division and giving them the highest score out of all 52 ensembles who performed at the festival. They are high school virtuosos and a treat to witness as they burn up any stage.
Outside of competition, Jazz I loves performing for their home crowd and the Concord community, making their musical selections span a variety of genres. From swing to latin, funk, and even movie and video-game music, these high schoolers pack a musical punch and are one of the top high school jazz bands in the East Bay.
You won’t want to miss this wonderful evening of music from Concord High’s Jazz Program!
