Songwriters Unplugged Showcase II w/ Dogman Joe, Amity Eliaz, Sparlha Swa, Brad Brooks & Justin Ancheta

June 29, 2010

http://www.songwritersunplugged.com

San Francisco has a new home for songwriters: the Songwriters
Unplugged Showcase taking place on June 29th at the San Francisco
Yoshi’s main stage. It will be the second culminating event of an
ongoing weekly series which, for the past eleven months, has featured
over 120 local and national songwriters, and brought this format to
the Yoshi's main stage in March of this year. Feeling like a family,
working in a collective atmosphere, the Showcase has made the
unplugged format into a combination of the 60's San Francisco folk
movement and cutting edge modern songwriting.

The event, co-produced by Bay Vibes and Sonic Zen Records moves from
the lounge to Yoshi’s main stage, and will be a milestone event
honoring the tremendous collection of creative songwriters in our
community. Featured performers are:

Sparlha Swa's works are heartsongs, prayers, and treasure maps to God.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she scored the multi-award-winning short
film Pariah (Sundance), played a lead role in Fela! Off Broadway, has
licensed songs to TV and Film (Girlfriends, Motives 2), released three
albums, toured independently with just a guitar to Toronto, London,
Amsterdam, Tokyo, Paris, Honolulu, and across the US.

Justin Ancheta writes obscure culture-stirring songs that can emote
personal reflection and soul enlightenment. The styles bounce between
classical flamenco rhythms and jazz improvisational reggae acoustic
rock. A truly gifted musician that challenges the world to evolve.

Brad Brooks presents atmospherically moody concoctions of disturbed
circus mania, and orchestrated cinematic pop songs for the common
criminal.

Amity Eliaz bring a fantastic young trio from West Sonoma County to
the stage. They have been grabbing the attention of audiences with
their performances at local venues, and continue to create a buzz as
they take their sound further afield to San Francisco and surrounding
areas. Amity's music is an alluring mix of Indie Folk-Rock, with
overtones of jazz, blues and a European flair.

Dogman Joe is a three time runner-up on VH1's Song of the Year.
Despite being an avid coffee drinker, he offers a refreshing glass of
ice tea to the world: a cool, zesty sound amidst all the buzz. With
catchy melodic hooks and rock-solid grooves, his songs tell a tale of
love and the struggle of everyday living tempered with an
"everything's gonna be alright" attitude.
